The Enchanted forest in Ellicot City MD was always the second stop on our trip to baltimore, I loved going there also...

The Encahnted Forest was a storybook themed amusement park that opened in 1954. It was the first theme amusement park in Maryland. Inside were rides and playgrounds ranging from Humpty Dumpty, to a castle, to gingerbread men at the gates. In 1989 it closed it's doors, and was boarded up. The park was then bought by a real estate developer and a shopping mall was built around the park. The only visable parts of the park are 'Old King Kole' on the mall sign, the main castle and dragon, the gingerbread men, and a Dentzel carousel. In 1994 the park was briefly re-opened, but then shut down again so afterwards. The park can be seen in the John Water's movie 'Crybaby' starring Johnny Depp, Ricki Lake, and Iggy Pop.
It is so sad that so many places have to die out cause everyone wants the thrill rides and bigger and better places to visit !!!
