The antispasmodic and expectorant properties of Helichrysum oil is said to help relieve congestions, loosen mucus and soothe coughs. Blend three drops each of Helichrysum, Eucalyptus an Frankincense oils in two tablespoons of sweet-almond oil. Massage the blend onto the entire chest area. Dragon Juice (Cajun Cough Syrup) 2 tsp ground ginger 2 tsp cayenne pepper ½ cup honey ½ cup apple cider vinegar 1 cup warm water Mix and shake just before taking

Does anyone have an old timey recipe for a cough medicine made from carmalized onions? At least I THINK that's what was done to the onions...it was something my mother used to make up when I was a little kid and had a lot of bronchial trouble. She got the recipe from her mother, but I've never heard of it since then.
(One of those things I forgot to 'collect' before she died...and so far, I haven't found it in her cookbooks ~sigh~)

I'll look in my herb book but I think there is something about onions. I'll let you know. We always make Ginger flavored brandy & honey. Mix half & half and take a tablespoon for coughs. works good

Ginger Brandy is great for chills and for gettin' to sleep on frosty evenings. My ex's Lithuanian grandparents are the only ones I've known who swore by your remedy, too. Cool!
I seem to recall vinegar being in the onion cough syrup, but that may have just been the onion flavor itself...it WAS many MANY years ago and I'm just going on 'taste/smell' memory...kind of strong, but sweet and sour.
Hmmm, I'd probably serve the same thing on grilled tenderloin steaks today! ;D
It was PROBABLY laced with that brandy! haha No wonder I liked it ~grin~
(I've scoured my herbals over the years and never did see anything like it. My grandma was originally from an Iowa farm. Maybe that's where she learned it: using what was at hand...)

maybe you will have the dry heaves from it and puke all that mucus out.....wowie! onions and vinegar would do that to me I think! I have had dry heaves two times in my life..and I thought I was going to heave up some internal organs for sure!

Dry heaves...had 'em LOTS of time (maybe becaue I don't usually have too much food in my belly) The worst is when the bile starts comin' up. ICK, takes forever to get the taste outta your mouth! (It does feel like the liver and rest of the innards aren't far behind, lol...leave yer gut bruised for a few days, too) Hmmm...I'd have to pour it down my windpipe to get the mucous out, hahaha...I think I'd drown! But maybe inhaling the fumes would help (the doc told me I've probably got allergies...well ~duh~ it's obviously Nevada, haha)

I think every teenager orta get the dry heaves, least twice. Meybe theyd think about drinkin alil more.
I had em twice. Once I was held up by a rail fence and had to crawl back to my truck.
It put my eating jalopeno peppers on hold for a while.
Howd we get from coughin to pukin?
Just take some castor oil for yer cough. ;D

the oldest of moms 8 kids takes a pint or quart fruit jar and packs it full of Rock candy and then pours Old Grand dad whiskey to cover it, let it sit awhile and then if you feel a cold or cough coming you get you a big ol drink of that and it will either Cure or Kill ya one of the two. But we are all still a live so guess it worked
