Recipe for Homemade Sports Drink:
1 cup of juice
2-3 cups of water
1/3 tsp salt (optional)
---------------------------------
- Water is 60% of your body weight. If you lose 1-2% water, you are experiencing dehydration; if you lose 7%, it can result in death. It is very important to stay hydrated and to increase fluid intake when you are working out to maximize performance. You can lose up to 3 liters of fluid per hour when running
- Signs of dehydration: headache, light headed/dizziness, dry mouth, fatigue, dark colored and/or small amounts of urine.
- Sedentary adults require a minimum of 8 cups of fluid daily; athletes need at least 10 cups per day.
- For activity over 60 minutes, it may be of benefit to have a sports beverage to replace carbohydrates and electrolytes. i.e. powerade or gatorade.
- Adequate hydration is also critical for temperature regulation.
- Even in cold weather, the body sweats and needs fluid. Fluids should be warm or at room temperature to prevent hypothermia
- Early signs of hypothermia: shivering, euphoria followed by weakness, disorientation and apathy.

Gettin to be that time of year again when ya gotta be sure an hydrate yer body. Nuttin really beats lotsa water. And dont wait till yer hot an thirsty, either. Before ya go out to get hot, Saturate yerself (drink alotta fluids) first. When yer pee is clear, yer saturated. It turns darker the more fluid ya lose.
I know this personally from experience.

Good post hb. Where I worked it was really really hot not only from the heat of summer but we had heat treat furnaces and age/anneal furnace. We only had fans and open doors. They taught us to drink before you feel such thirst. You are already dehydrating when you feel thirst. We had folks falling out it got so hot in there. Best to avoid caffeine drinks so we would drink our coffee early before it heated up so much. Shouldn't have had any tho, but some of us are addicted to it.

JUST BE CAREFUL HOW MUCH POWERADE OR GATORADE YOU DRINK CAUSE IT IS LOADED WITH SODIUM, AND DON'T DRINK TOO MUCH WATER TO FAST CAUSE DRINKING TOO MUCH WATER IS NOT GOOD FOR YOU EITHER, WE FOUND OUT ALL THIS THE HARD WAY LAST SUMMER WHEN HUBBY HAD HIS HEAT STROKE. YOU SHOULD SIP WATER ALL DAY LONG TO AVOID GETTING WATER INTOXIFICATION.

You are right about the ice water. But it doesn't stay ice water long. So all is good.
