Hack Your Metabolism to Burn Fat
By Alex - Posted on June 7th, 2007
No matter how slow your metabolism is, there are a few things you can do to trick it into speeding up and burning fat as efficiently as possible.
When making changes to your eating habits, remember these pointers:
* Everyone is different. What is highly effective for one person might not be as effective for you.
* Make manageable changes. Sometimes your habits will be very hard to break. Other times, your schedule might interfere with the changes you want to make. Be sure to take things slowly and in a manner that you can handle.
* Track your progress. Every week or two, track the progress you're making. You can measure your weight and bodyfat percentage, but these numbers can be misleading. The best way to track your progress is to take pictures every week or so. And remember to track your progress in the morning, when you just woke up (and after you've done your business Eye-wink ).
* Be stubborn. Your body wants to maintain its body fat. You need to beat it at its own game by being persistent. This means making tweaks to your eating and exercise habits as time goes by.
Keep on reading for a list of things you can do to hack your metabolism.
1. Eat 6 reasonably-sized meals a day. By doing this, you will allow your body to absorb nutrients and fuel without storing too much excess as fat.
2. Space your meals evenly. It's best to eat your meals around 3 hours apart from each other. Don't wait too long between meals, or else your metabolism will suffer.
3. Eat high-protein foods. Have foods that are relatively high in protein to support muscle growth. Remember that protein is essential to building and keeping muscle.
4. Eat good carbs. The worst type of carbs you can have come from simple sugars. NEVER eat or drink things that have high fructose corn syrup. Examples of some good carbs are vegetables and whole wheat/whole grain foods such as brown rice or pasta.
5. Eat enough fat. A common mistake is to think that cutting fat from your diet makes you lose fat. Actually, foods that have omega-3 fatty acids can be beneficial to your overall health. Have things like peanut butter, olive oil, fish, and if you're really adventurous, fish oil or flaxseed oil.
6. Take a kid's chewable vitamin. Adult multivitamins are often recommended, but your body just discards the excess in your waste. Taking a kid's vitamin ensures you're getting the vitamins you need, just in case.
7. Drink tea instead of soda. Tea is a great alternative to soda, and it has many health benefits. (Be sure to drink plenty of plain water, too.)
Remember, consistency is key. You don't have to make all these changes at once. Do them slowly, and in a way that your lifestyle allows. Your body will thank you for it.
