I think California's most famous two were the Kashan Castle (destroyed in the Malibu fires last year) and the Hearst Castle, owned by the Hearst's of newspaper fame. Many of the others listed I wouldn't consider to be a castle, just homes built to look like mini-castles, like the one in Modesto.

Virginia has a few really old castles. One built 1885 on the James River. Pretty cool.

www.dupontcastle.com/castles/bothwell.htmWhen I went to college and lived in Sedalia, we used to go out in the spring and fall and have picnics on the grounds of this place. It is really pretty out there! It is up a really big hill and looks out over 65 highway. I love having this board on here...reminds me of places that I went when I didn't have a camera...I need to go back & take some pictures of this place!

It's nice to see Santa's Castle at Santa Claus,IN on the list! I didn't get that far. I saw a few of them and got really homesick for my castle! Seriously Ratman, what is that in the picture with the face? I can't see the pic very well cause it's so small.
