One of mine was laying on the ground yesterday. I have those round wire things holding them up. This one is so tall it fell over. Took me forever to find a stick, then I had to have my heavy hammer. It was hiding almost in plain site and took me 15 minutes or more to find that. I finally started hammerin the stick in the ground and it went so far and hit totally dry dirt and just didn't want to go any farther. I think I got it far enough to hold the wire thing and mater plant. I tied it up and noticed it has those tiny red varmits all over it. Its got blooms but no maters yet. It is the one that the blooms kept falling off. I couldn't find my bug spray so I squirted dish washing liquid in water on it. I got my two little plants pretty close to it but they don't have the bugs yet.

I'm finally getting a few ripe tomatoes. Still fighting the mites. I think I got rid of the red ones and now they are covered with white mites. I tried an experiment yesterday got to go and see if it worked. I mixed up some of the Dawn dishwashing liquid in my sprayer and gave them a good spraying. Seems like I spent the morning spraying stuff yesterday.

Spydie I was reading bout your mater problems in your blog. I mixed the Dawn dishwashing liquid with some water other day and really soaked my maters good and as of yesterday I couldn't see any of the white or red mites.
For the hornworms other than picking them off and killing them, if you can get some Sevin either the dust or liquid spray them good with that and it should take care of those worms. They can literally eat a tomato plant up overnight and destroy them.

I sprayed it with liquid sevin. But that second one ate half or more of it. It is a tall spindly plant because it doesn't get much sun, but it was making tomatoes. The other one I sprayed for those whites things, sevin didn't work...so will try the dish soap. I sure did hate smushin that big ole thang, glad I had a rock and didn't have to see it.

I been lucky not to have any of the hornworms yet. Keeping fingers crossed..... I usually will scream when I see one and then scream more when I smoosh it.

I've always heard they will sting. Momma and my Grandmother always told me they were poison. I don't really know. I do know they leave their black poop on the mater plants, that's how I always knew when they were on my maters. Then I would just be careful to look for them and kill em and then spray the plants.
