This one again came from an old timer and works.Once you place your plants into your garden take a half of handful of Kosher salt and put at the base of your plants. For some reason this will give you very stronge plants with large fruit. I've read in other garden posts that wind is a problem.will take a hurricane to knock these plants over.lol I've had the stems of my plants get to 2-4 inches in width.Give it a try,it works.

Another small tip is to plant helpful partners such as Nasturtiums,Poppies, and Marigolds, attract insects that eat aphids and other pests.

Like Hill said in his reply #4.......Epsom Salts is excellent for tomatoes. They'll grow and bear until cold weather. It gives them a good source of magnesium which they evidently need. I didn't know they were good for Bell Peppers though. I do know it takes a lot of water to grow Bell Peppers.

Yes it is and Epsom salt works wonders for aching muscles. I tried to find the translation for that and couldn't. Spydie, I had a good teacher.

Epsom salt works on the plants, because I've used it. But this year I forgot, so I'm going right out to the garden and using it. Thanks for reminding me!
Maybe I'll soak my feet, too. VBG

That's good you got reminded, snow.
Ok, I think ya'll told me already but I forgot. How often do I put the salt and ammonia nitrate on the maters? I put it on them in May when we were talking about it.

I only ever put it on when I first plant them. They do fine with one application, but maybe more is better. Don't want to kill them with kindness, though.

I know, I sure don't want to kill them. I am just now getting some ripe ones. One of them is acting strange tho. It's blooms are turning brown and falling off. I think its time to put miracle grow on them. I should of wrote it down last time I did it but forgot.

I have talked to several people round here and the tomato crop around here is crappy this year. Some people have had a blight to hit the maters. My mater and Daddy's maters have got all the leaves curling up on them and covered with red mites. Sevin won't kill em neither will Malathion. Some people I have talked with all the maters have a rotten spot on the bottom and then some the maters will get ripe but inside there is a green spot. Now mind you the majority of us have all got different varieties planted. Daddy has Jet Star and I have the Big Boy or Better Boy I done forgot.
