Building a square foot garden If you have a garden, but you're no expert, or new to growing food, first choose a good site. What makes a good site? Lots of sunshine, and tons and tons of that "well-drained, rich, loamy soil" the seed packets tell you to plant your seeds in, as if the stuff grows on trees. So just choose a good place where there's enough light, we'll fix the soil. journeytoforever.org/garden_sqft.html

Hopefully next year I will feel like doing something like this. But I sure don't have a real good spot for much. Lots of trees around me and hardly any flat ground.

I don't have a place for that, but I am going to try a container garden. I wish I did have a square foot of space. Spyde, you and Joyce both have beautiful places.

My first strawberry patch here was in raised beds. They did good til the deer eat them off to the top of the ground.
The very first year I move here back in 99 I did some of the raised bed gardening. More less an experiment, plus I didn't have a tiller to work alot of ground.
I have alot of containers with flowers in them and I have to water them twice a day or they start wilting in our heat down here. I use the good potting mix and fertilize about every 2 weeks but container plants use and need alot more water.

Well where I live, the outside areas are not mine to plant. So I have to have something I can manage on my deck. We don't have access to water except from the inside faucet, maybe I won't be able to do this either. I saw those on that other link, and thought they were pretty nice.

You could do it cali. Just don't start with too many at first. Get one of those big plastic tea pitchers at the Dollar Tree. You could have tommie toes, bell peppers or such as that.
