Memphis welcomes sea lion displaced by Katrina
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Another evacuee from the Gulf Coast has arrived in Memphis, and he's quite picky about his seafood.
Andre, a 250-pound sea lion from Gulfport, Miss., has found a temporary home at the Memphis Zoo.
Hurricane Katrina washed him from his pen at the Marine Life Oceanarium. He wandered for 11 days, finding food and water where he could.
Then, last Saturday, he was discovered behind a casino and shipped to Memphis in a special crate. He arrived later that day and was on display for the first time Tuesday.
Although Andre lost about 100 pounds, mammal curator Matt Thompson said he's in good shape. He's receiving antibiotics tucked into his herring snacks.
He's expected to be here a few weeks, until he can return to Gulfport or visit a new zoo.
For now, Memphians can see him frolicking in a spare pool near the hippos.
He'll be the one with a mouthful of fresh herring.

It is great to see that people are caring for the animals that need it also, instead of just letting them suffer Thanks for that bit of information Spyder it gives a person a good feeling
