If the owner took the dog to the vets afterwards,he'll know what caused the death, can't prove anything else like who done it. It is a mean way, cause really its not the dogs fault. Anti-freeze does the same thing, kills, cause it is sweet to an animal. Why not get a electric-fence, one they use to keeps pigs in,there cheap. Run it down your property line, dog touch that,he won't come in 100 feet of your yard. Its a little more humane.

Cruelty to animals ring a bell. there must be a better way than killing the dogs, really.

I know the three S's sounds bad, but if ya got livestock an the dogs are chasin or killin. It perfectly normal to do that. Here where I live. that aint acceptable. While we dont have leash laws in the country, ya cant have dogs killin llivestock. Folks (me included) have had to put down our own dogs. Usually dogs with an already mean temper, can not be raised around livestock. I found out as a kid, that ya cant have shepards, dobs, rotts, chows, or a mixture of anything including such on yer place. They have a habit of just playin with yer chickens, lambs, calves, etc. And while they're playin, the critter thinks its runnin for its life an freaks out. Usually resulting in death. Then once the dog gets a taste of blood in its system. it becomes a hunting game. Or, you have wild dogs that are hunting to survive. Either way, the dog gets put down.
Sounds to me like yer neighbor's dog is still in his puppy stage. ie, chewing stuff up. This will prolly pass as he gets older. Deal with it as you would as if it was yer own pup. Dont leave stuff out for him to chew. Or..... Help yer neighbor realize the fun yer having by waiting till he puts his trash out an pour bacon grease all over it. lol
Ammonia will also repel dogs from target areas. As well as hot pepper.

You are right Hil, I agree, some dogs have to be dealt with. But these pups are not chasing after any animals. They just need some discipline, and a fenced in area.

There should be a law, even on a reservation, that says people have to be resposnsible for them & consequences when they dont. I dont know what the answers are but seems that someone there should be able to tell him. I agree to send them a formal letter asking them to keep the dogs in their yard & tell them what the dogs have torn up. If they dont respond or respond negatively, sue them, make them pay for it. Go to small claims court.

Well, since they are messing with your chickens, you don't have a choice, but to do something drastic. They for sure will kill them if they get the chance. Good luck.

I thought it was critter problems. If its justa pup, then he's just doin pup things. Tasting everything. Give him sumpthin to taste on what ya dont want chewed up. Or like ya said. Help neighbor contain him, if he's in agreement.
Sadsack, dont hava collar, nor a chain. has the run of the place. sometimes goes an sees his girlfriend at the neighbors. Most of the time he just lays around. Dont even chase rabbits.

Pup or grown, I think I would pop his ass with a bb gun a few times if he was after my chickens. He would soon learn it hurts too much. Just don't pump the bb gun too much. My brother use to kill rats with a bb gun!

Do you have one of those big powerful water guns? Shoot em what that, and they might not like it either. Or put lemon juice in it lol...might burn their eyes....sheeesh I am getting cold hearted on this thread. But you have to do something. You can't let puppy dogs take control. You have to teach they some way not to do it!

8 months old is still a pup, till they're least a year old. They mite be as big as a horse. but their still puppies. He mite grow outta it, if he dont getta taste of blood.
Lotsa solutions, for lotsa problems. I cant really say cuz i dont walk in Yan's shoes. The remedy will havta fit the problem at hand.
I will say if you havta resort to extreme measures, One Shot, One Kill, is the best way. You owe that to the dog, if nuttin else. None of that poison, sufferin shit. Dog cant help it that he thinks the world around him is a playground.

I agree, it all goes back to the owner. He needs to start training now or keep em penned up or in the house. If I knew my critter was bothering someone, I would go out of my way to resolve the problem, but that ain't everybody thats like that. If you do resort to the kill, be prepared to have a disgruntled neighbor. Ya know that is exactly why I don't get over friendly with my neighbors. If it goes sour somehow, you are stuck with still being neighbors. Plus it ain't easy being the only single female in the neighborhood. I don't give anyone any reason to not like me but you know how it is if a married man speaks to ya and you hear his wife yell at him later. sheeesh. Why would I want her man? Ok I am ramblin and I ain't even drinkin coffee. I did take two pain pills tho. Had to wash my car and it had dead bugs on it and took freakin For-Ever to clean.

Yanisa, I hope you are able to work out the neighbor problems, including the dog. Sounds like there is a lot of stuff going on there.
