What do you do when your neighbor's dog is out of control, destroying your stuff and the owners seem to do nothing about it?

Here in my town, Animal Control picks them up. My neighbor next door had a dog that had puppies. They kept her in the fenced back yard. She would dig out and come to my house. Someone in the neighborhood called Animal Control and he knocked on my door. She was seen in my carport and he thought she was mine. I begged him not to take her because of the pups. He said ok but he left a note on their door. I live in the county, and they don't come out unless there is a complaint. Even tho there is a lease law, many let them run loose. My road is used as a short cut to another road so at times, traffic can get somewhat heavy. I lost a puppy that ran across the road after a cat few yrs ago. She had never been in the road and just took off when I had just went outside with her. There are several in my neighborhood that run loose but they don't bother anything. Some come to visit me now and then. The little terrier across the road and down a little bit will make a bee line for me when he is let out of the house, if he sees me outside. OMG, I am so scared he will get hit by a car! But I love when he visits, he never hurts anything here. Some of them do tend to poop in my yard as they pass by. I do hate running over that with the mower, but compared to the mole harrassment it ain't so bad. Now cats are what bug me sometimes. Especially if I see where they have been on my car! If yan can not get help with the dog catchers, maybe if he would pet the dog and act friendly to it, maybe it won't damage anything if its attention is more to him than tearing up stuff. Other than that, I just don't know what he could do, unless he goes to small claims court about it.

DO YOU HAVE AN ANIMAL CONTROL AGENCY THERE? IF SO I WOULD CALL THEM FIRST AND IF THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING THEN I WOULD TRY AND PELLET GUN OR FIRECRACKERS TO SEE IF YOU COULD SCARE THE DOG OFF! WE HAVE HAD TO SHOOT PEOPLES DOGS THAT WERE TEARING OUR STUFF UP AND KILLING OUR CHICKENS IT WAS NOT A GOOD THING BUT YOU HAVE TO PROTECT WHAT IS YOURS!

hows your aim??? If ya don't want to harm the mutts use a sling shot or bee-bee/pellet gun, fireworks work too but gets expencive... Or ya can just be friendly to them and feed them and they might just turn around and start protecting your property instead of recking it. Ya never know... Good luck. I hope you can find a solution to your problem.

You said last night Animal Control is out of your jurisdiction, someone is blowing smoke up your butt telling you that.Animal Control isn't limited to only the city. Its for the entire county.Your not _itching enough. Are these dogs licensed? Where are they licensed from? If there not licensed, they have to come and pick them up. If all else fails,go to a tractor-supply store and they sell a repellent to keep animals out of your yard. Also if you send your neighbor a certified letter(cause its legal) telling him about the nusianance and he does nothing, take his butt to court.

If you want to get nasty, tell Animal Control the dog bite you,its the law they have to come out.
Or do as Hill suggested, just don't let anyone see you do it.

He is in Ponca city, Oklahoma, it is on the reservation. he sez animal control won't come out there. Not their jurisdiction.

It is different on a res, or at least where I have been.... no fences and no leash rules. Creatures are free... sometimes not. I can't speak for Indian law on that one, or on anything for that matter. Someone else might have an idea.

Other than Yans have any of the rest of you lived in OK? The Res is different than any where else.. I lived a year in Norman OK... My husband had gone to HS just outside of town in Noble OK... Unless it was like a real Felony such as Murder or such... a Res is Federal land and not really under the jurisdiction of any local or state laws!!! including animal control!! I know that seems weird to most of us... but if you have lived around a Res or have indian heritage you understand (I'm 1/4 Cherokee)...
Yan... I'd listen to 1 or the other idea mentioned... maybe 1st try to make fiends and train dog to be part yours... or if that doesn't work or if that doesn't sound like you can do it... follow Hill's advise but make sure it's quiet!!!!!
Good luck!!! Luv Dez

It is very different and while similiar, each is quite unique in their laws and inforcement of them. Animal enforcement won't work there unless invited by those allowed to invite.

i came home today and the dogs had my lazy boy all torn too pieces, thar was cotton and foam all over the place,
i do like hillbilly's idea of the 3 s's, believe me i have thought about that a number of times,
the other option i have is too take em too another animal control, like maybe down in stillwater and tell em i found em runnin loose on the highway,
the other idea i had was too maybe help my neighbor build a kennel for them, so that way they can stay out of my way and still be safe

If the kennel idea doesn't work........... if you take a sponge cover it with gravy, set it out were they will find it..............problem solved. Than take Hill's other 2 S's,shovel-shutup.

ooooh mj, that sounds kinda cruel...slow death. If it has to die, it should be quick at least. Taking the dogs for a long ride sounds like a pretty good idea tho. Well...at least better than the sponge.
