Do you ever notice that there are some times you see a certain animal more often, almost to the point of being odd?

I do. The year both kids married and my dad passed was the year of the butterfly. They were at both weddings and the funeral, too. One even landed on my arm while I was stopped for traffic on the expressway.
Another year was the year of the turtle. They were forever crossing the road in front of me. One walked by the doorwall of my bedroom, looking in and other little ones were blown at my door during a wind storm (tornado season).
There was the hawk year. There are many near the roads, but no one else noticed them. It was really odd to see one on my porch rail. It turned and looked at me and flew off.
This year seems to be the year of deer and fox.
Does anyone else notice animals like that?

Mine so far has been dogs. Little ones in fact. All in the complex that I live. Everyone seems to be getting them. Last year it was cats. I can't wait to see what is next.

I haven't seen many critters this summer. I might if I got out of the house now and then. I did see that king snake in March, and those cute little lizards on my deck. Hummers for a while but they are gone now. When I was working I always drove to work thru the country and I would always see deer, hawks, turkeys, fox, possum, coons, coyote, snakes and oh, those cute little turtles. It was a bottom where the Forked Deer floods when it rains. I got out many times to get a turtle out of the road. lol

All I ever see are cats coming to challenge my cats territory.

Couple years ago it was a Mockingbird. Sang all night long. (I thought they was day birds?) Even went up to visit CC and Granny Cow an there it was singin away. I said Hey, you gotta mockingbird too?. C says, No we dont. And you can take it back with you. She told me later it quit singing after I left. And wasnt too long till it was singin again here.
Was it the same one? Who knows. I live prolly six miles as the bird flies, from their house. I even tried lookin up the meaning of havin a mockingbird as a totem. Didnt find much. But it did come to be a comforting sound that year.
I didnt hear it last year at all. Then this year it has made just a few visits. I figger it done its job in keepin me company during a strange time and now its job is over. I look forward in seeing my friend again, someday.

Hill, Who knows, maybe it was the same one. The osprey were noisy when I first moved south years ago. It was very cool because I had been watching them in the north, too. There was a nesting area in the park I walked daily (in the north).
Deer, I always see, but not usually as close as I have the last month... except in that park... not in the woods or near the house. Fox, I have only ever seen by the headlights of the car, not in the middle of the day... I have seen at least 4 in the afternoon with in the last month.

Well, I guess I do have a critter for this yr that appears, that didn't the other yrs. The little doggie across the road. When they let him out of the house, he makes a bee line to come see me. And he doesn't look before crossing the road! OMG I hope I am not the reason if he gets hit by a car!! I love that little guy. I miss having a dog so much. Had one most all my life. He will stay right beside me the whole I am outside. I think he knows I am lonesome. He's a jack russell but I haven't taught him how to dig up moles yet. He will dig a little hole but I don't think he is too interested in finding them.

I think dogs and cats sometimes know when someone needs them around. Where I used to live I could have no pets and I truly miss having creatures around. I went in to get water for him and he was gone. I went to clean out my car and he came back.. only long enough for me to read his collar (no tags).... Harley. That would be the dog I would want, if I could have any at all. They need a lot of time though and a place to run. It is not yet time for one to live with me all the time.
The cats and dogs and birds visiting friends here? I think they just know they are needed.

It's what I'm seeing during daylight hours that is different for me. Racoons, bobcat, coyote, deer. Usually see all them during early morning or late evening hours, but this year I'm seeing them all times of the day. And we got a bumper crop of hummingbirds this year. Haven't hardly see a woodpecker this year though.

That is what I notice, too Buzzie... night-time animals out during the day. In the middle of the afternoon? deer? fox? If it were just one time, I would say something woke em up. Have seen it more than a few times this year.
LOL course my schedule as been a bit off, too.

Skeeter, I think you are right about Hill's mockingbird. Quite often when I watch the critters that seem to hang around me for a while, I catch myself laughing at how simple they seem to make life and how much I am like them... or could be if I didn't make things so difficult.
The year of the geese? Hissing ornery birds they were. My mailbox was too close to their nest and they were protective of that. NO different than I was with my kids that year.
