WEB WORM INVASION Web worms (Gypsy Moth Caterpillars to be exact) live in colonies usually in trees where they spin a protective barrier of silky threads to protect themselves from predators. Usually, these colonies are small but sometimes, one grows out of control... www.slightlywarped.com/crapfactory/curiosities/webworminvasion.htmWe usually have some kind of webs in our trees before fall, but I haven't seen any this yr.

I haven't ever seen those either. I hope I don't also. Most yrs I see some webs (not like those, tho) around here about this time and there are usually some in my tree by the road but I haven't seen any so far.

Being new to this area, I am seeing a lot of new and different things. I am surrounded by woods, and a couple of trees have webs that cover quite a big area. I have no clue as to what causes this.

I used to drive on a lot of roads in the National Forests here and saw a lot of webs in trees but nothing like the bicycles. Must have been there for some time.

we have what we call, "Bag Worms" here. Gets in the trees an makes silky bags around leaves. Then they strip the leaves off. And make worm droppings under the bag. They were early here this year. an still active now. We used ta snip off the limb with the bag an burn it in the trash barrel. I dont keep up with it any more. Ma an Pa would do it religiously every year.
Fall is always the time of year for spider webs in the trees. The woods is full of them. If ya go lollygaggin thru the woods now, ya better hava stick to wind em up on. Or you'll look like a cocoon time ya get outta the timber.
