Goin tomorrow to get a tank with a heater. Anyone every raise them? he seems to be pretty happy, swimmin real good. When I first got him he was kinda listless. Purty lil thing, Blue, an purple with reddish fins. Named him Merlin. ;D ( just gotta keep the cat from finding him till I get a good tank !)

@ HB I have had Beta's before, some say they are a lazy fish. Like to lay around alot. They are compatible with gold fish as long as the gold fish aren't bigger or smaller then the Beta. they like to hide in water plants and lay at the bottom of the tank. You don't have to buy a big tank for them either. They are not picky, just don't put an other Beta male in with it, ya might not have 2 fish by morning. I wouldn't put a Beta female in with it either, just to be on the safe side. ;D

SF, you don't have to have a fancy tank for a lone beta. Don't even have to have a heater. I kept one on my desk at work for a couple of years in one of those little tanks that they show you can put neon tetras in, only bout a gallon of water, or less, depending on how big a tank you want. The ones I have had in the past did well without the heater. It's a fighter, so you don't want to put two males together for sure. Have had a male and female together with no problem, although sometimes they will chew up each others tails, then you gotta seperate them. They're real easy to care for, just gotta be careful not to overfeed. They should have a filter though. Here's one site with infor. on them: freshaquarium.about.com/cs/anabantids2/p/betta.htm

well i got him a 10 gal . tank ( they were cheaper than the 5 gal. tanks.) got him a heater, cause it gets purty dang cold in here sometimes. Right now he is just swimmin and gettin used to his new surroundings. I figgured i better get a lil larger tank so miss priss wont knock it off. one with a top on it so she cant try to catch him either.... So now he has a home, food, heat, flowers to hide in and a small castle and skull ( since he is a wizzard you know ) LOL Thanks for the website Ill check it out and put it in favorites !

I hadda fish tank set up once. Got three minnows from a bait shop an caught a channel cat bout three inches long while casting for shad. they lived for a couple years in there. Till I went off for a few days. My bad. The channel grew to bout five inches tho. I dont thin kI would have tropical fish, when we got just as perty fish right here locally. carp are perty when they're young. But talk bout a hyper fish. holy cow. was like turnin on a blender in there. Made the other fish run an hide. They paid me to take the carp out.
