Ok I have this problem right now. Around my nails the skin is cracked and peeling and it is very sore. I have been putting lotion on them but it is not working they still keep cracking and boy do they hurt !!! Anybody got any Ideas ? Hubby says it is from the cold weather. I have been using a lot of Germ X cause it is the season for Influenza. I caught it last Feb and thought I was gonna die ! So this year I am extra careful ! Thanx SF

I used to use it all the time when I worked at my dad's gas station, specially during winter. My hands would get so red and chapped. Guess dairy farmers use it a lot. www.walgreens.com/store/product.jsp?CATID=100951&navAction=jump&navCount=1&id=prod10744

Bag Balm is great for chapped hands. I remember my mom always had it in the medicine cabinet.

I remember when I was a child at home Daddy's hands would bust open especially in the winter. I even seen em bleed. and around here we had what was called Corn Huskers Lotion. He started using that Hadn't thought about it in years and just did a search and they still make it. Daddy thought it was great, I remember it really helped his hands. www.pfizerch.com/product.aspx?id=265

I think poppy used that when we were little. I used to keep bag balm around for cuts on my dogs. Will have to look for both and maybe use one in the day and one at night...

We got all the major stuff done now all that is left is to tape and mud the new sheetrock on the ceiling ( I am hoping mechanix will come and help with that) and to paint and paper I have to go and see what kind of paper I want and what colors , little man wants me to do it in red, green and pink!! but I don't think I will! red and green are not my favorite colors and I just got rid of the ugly pink tub, toilet and sink! but we can at least use the bathroom now!

You could be allergic to the germ x. Try switching to another brand or just use regular soap and water. The alcohol in that stuff actually acts as an astringent and will dry your skin. (Antibacterial soap isn't any better than the real thing.) Lotions are mostly water and don't penetrate deep enough or last long enough to do any good. You will also want to stay away from scented lotions. The scents can irritate already delicate skin. Eucerine cream is good. I use vicks vapo rub on my hands and wear white cotton socks on them to keep it from getting on the sheets. Gloves will work too, but I don't have any. I also put it on my feet to keep them soft, they feel sort of tingly and I kind of like that feeling. The medication will help to reduce the pain and swelling. Besides, if you have a cold it will help clear your sinuses. Just remember to keep from rubbing your eyes! Vaseline is good too but doesn't smell as good. Neosporin works too for the cuts, put it on gauze pads and tape it to your fingers. We careful though, may cause you to sing in a high pitched voice and grab your crotch. ;D A little side note for ya, my mom always had corn husker's lotion around when we were kids. But we wouldn't let her use it on us because my uncle said it was pig snot.

well, it was just the "pig snot" comment that cracked me up.
we hadda gal that brought a bottle of that to work earlier this winter. I made comments bout how many donors she had to fill the bottle. She took it back home. ;D
