I have one of Jim's reels, and let me tell you, it is as smooth as anything I have ever seen. Not to mention he's a pretty darn good guy.

It always helps out ta rep a good product! Jim couldn't hardly of picked out a better'n than Penn. I've had a 49, an it was a dandy. Had I b'lieve a 309 with level-wind an it was a goodun. That was back when I used ta snag them ol spoonbills. Bout 90% of th snaggin reels was Penn 49s or Senators, I think they was called. I now got 2 209s I like real good and a 109 I bought used that needs a little work on it. I been readin everthing that Jim sez bout what can be wrong with and what can be done about it, an I like what I hear an read. I also been keepin track of a business deal he has been involved in and I highly approve of his ethical standards. Man of his word! Purty hard ta beat a dealer like that!

Ok I hate to be a greenhorn here but..... I have never heard of a Penn reel. I like to fish and have been doing so since I could hold a rod, But when I was little dad made sure I had a Zebco reel. Then when I got older I got to graduate to an open faced reel I believe it was a Mitchell, I will have to check into these Penn Reels.......

Penn reels are amazing reels. Just about stout enough to double as a winch for your boat in a pinch.

Here is a look at the Mitchell Reels. I called dad last night and he said yes they were Mitchell reels we had. He'd heard of the Penn Reels too. Said they were real good. Hmmm the things we learn when we ask huh? www.fishmitchell.com/menu.cfm?

Here i a nice link to all types of Penn Reels and the facts about each. I used a Mitchell 300 most of my fishing life till the last ten years. I like a small open face reel. I have a Shakespear 10 bearing ree I got at Wal Mart for $37 and it is the best reel I have ever used. I also bought a cherry 6 foot light weight rod at Wal Mart and the combo is very light and easy to use. I use 14 # to 20# braided stren sinkable line and think it is the best with no Memory and a small diameter. Penn reels are very good but expensive and may be too good for the ocassional fisherman. I just bought a Daiwa Combo rod and reel at Dicks reduced from $40 to $20 and I think its a great deal. All blue reel with a blue 6 foot rod! Here is the link for Penn Reels +++ www.fishermansheadquarters.com/penn_reels.html

Ya can look up th differnces in 'birdnest city'! Also got ta try out that #9 I told ya I got. It either needs more lube, or it has a bit of a problem. I'll letcha know when I've used it a bit more.

"birdnest city"....i've been there!!!...just this last weekend as a matter a fact... .....guess everyone hasta' visit there at least a time or two 'fore they get the hang a it..... chef jim, after dealin with my birdnest misadventure, do ya suppose i should just buy a couple or three more Penns from ya?.....that way, one could be in the mail to you to untangle (since i do that so very well...gosh, who knew that with the first cast i'd be an expert at birdnestin'?).....one could be in the mail back to me after you worked your magic...an' i'd have one or two at my disposal to practice with..... ..... what kinda' money would we be talkin' for me to just put you on retainer?.... ;D....... better yet, you an ms. kitty could just relocate to MO an i could just drop 'em off........wait, if ya relocated, my hero, ms. kitty, could continue the lesson that ended so abruptly with the amazin' mess i managed to make....an she could just take it home with her if i messed up..... ;D...... (wanna' plainly state, it wasn't anythin' about the reel....it was all about me not makin' it real clear to my thumb what i expected it to do as i cast........) it is my plan to be really good at castin' an' catchin' big fish with that beautiful Penn before i see ya next...... ......

Awww shoot, N, you'll be ok with the castin'. I called in four of my associates today, and after about 3 hours we had your reel untangled and good as new again. I did switch the line on it fer ya to make it easier though. I put a load of that 80lb green dot like Hill uses on his so it'll be easier to untangle should there be any further difficulties. She'll be in the mail "Priority" in the morning, so be watchin' for her. Just you wait and see. You'll be a Penn head besides being a catter in no time..........
