Nope, haven't made soap. The kids and I, though, made luffa soap this year with melt and pour soap. It was fun but expensive! Maybe we'll try making our own soap next year so I'll keep an eye on this thread.

I like the goats milk soap also ! But I found that you don't want to take a shower or bath with it then be outside in the woods! Seems the Skeeters just love goats milk too!

Simple Oatmeal Soap Ingredients: 1/2 cup ground oatmeal 1/2 cup soap shavings 1 1/2 tablespoons sweet almond or olive oil 1 tablespoon water Place soap shavings in a plastic bag, and pound them into smaller pieces. Place the soap in a blender, add oatmeal, and process until mixture it's "grainy" in texture.. Pour it into a bowl and remove any larger pieces. Add the oil and water, then "knead" it to mix and form it into a firm ball. Set it aside for at least 2 hours until it dries. (You can use leftover soap that you've grated---small sample bars can be used too as long as the fragrances don't clash.

I found this recipe and thought I would post it...
White floating soap
1 can lye 1 quart rain water 2 quarts strained, unsalted lard 1/2 cup liquid ammonia 2 tablespoons Borax
Mix lye and rain water together in a stone jar (this is important as this mixture gets extremely hot). Cool. Melt lard: let cool, then stir into lye mixture using a wooden paddle or wooden spoon. Add ammonia and borax and continue stirring until mixture is like thick syrup or fudge. Pour into a 4 quart glass sheet pan. Cut into bars after 8 hours and lay out dry. This is a good laundary soap and has many other good old-fashioned uses.
