I am making my first quilt, almost have the top pieced together. Am doing decorative stitches on it now. Anyway, I am wondering which is the best method to bind the edges when I get that far. Thanks.

Well, I just finished my first official quilt and I'll tell you what I did, (even though I suspect that you already figured it out, lol.) First of all, you are supposed to cut your binding on the bias. You know, diagonally across the fabric. This gives it better wear or some such. And you need to fold it because that will make it thicker and last longer. It should be about 3 inches wide (folded) when you attach it. This will give you about a 1 inch binding. Then just how you sew it on is up to you pretty much. It can be done many different ways. I sewed it on with the seam to the front. Then I pressed it in half and sewed the folded edge down by hand, using a little knot stitch every 10 stitches or so. I was using a deep purple binding on a mostly white quilt, so I didn't want any purple stitches to show up on the white, and that is why I did mine this way. Hope I helped .......
