Materials One Yard of 45" wide durable fabric such as canvas or denim Thread One package of pre-made "Wright's Maxi Piping". This piping helps the bag stand on it's own. Optional- 4 feet of 1" wide webbing (or sew handles as provided in the instructions sewing.about.com/od/bagstotespurseproject/ss/grocerybag.htmI read through it and it looks fairly simple and think of all the plastic bags you wouldn't be waisting !!!

There was something on the news about a town not far from here in Kansas that has banned the use of plastic bags and people now have to start buying canvas bags and taking shopping with them. They said that the plastic bags are being thrown on the ground and such and littering up the town. They think by doing this and making the people pay for their bags that the amount of litter will cease.

I use my walmart bags as garbage bag for my small trash baskets. But still got lots of them saved. I have been meaning to use cloth ones since buzzie mentioned using them. Now if I would go to the grocery store often enough so I didn't have to get a basket full of stuff.

I use the plastic bags for a variety of things. I have given serious thought to the use of a canvas bag. But I still like to have the plastic bags around, they are handy.

I love the canvas bags, bought some for everyone in my family too. (They're only 99 cents at Walmart) You can carry quite a bit in them and I use them at every store I go to, not just the grocer's. A lot of stores credit you a nickel a bag if you use them. Several towns in California are banning/have banned the plastic bags.
