Here's what happened to me one early morning last Summer....
Last night I was fishing on a little pier at Lake Monticello. It had been a pretty good night, getting a couple of little blues. Then I had a HARD pulldown, and I started working on what I knew was a good 'un. I played him for about 30 minutes, being careful with my 10' casting rod rigged with 30# mono. I finally got him tired out, and he rolled underneath me so I could get a good look at him. He was a good one (I think about 50 or 60 lbs), but I had a BIG problem. There was no way he was going to fit in the net I had. I was using a net with a long extendable handle because it was about 8 feet down to the water. The fish was laying quiet, so I stopped to figure out a game plan. I decided to walk him 50 feet back to the shore and try and grab him by hand. There was a rip-rap bank, and I don't get around very good any more, but it was my best shot.
I walked him to shore and started to make my way down the bank. The fish was still winded; so far so good. But I had ended up on top of a red fire ant nest, and they went into full attack mode. ^**(^*%R)*%$($^^$#(^........ EVERYWHERE was getting stung by thousands of them! I tried to concentrate on the fish, but it was no good. He ended breaking off, and I ended up running through the woods taking my clothes off to get rid of the ants. I can't even begin to tell you about the stinging.........
I spent a week laying on my bed in pain. I looked like some kind of terrible accident at a hamburger meat grinding plant.
And I didn't even get the fish!!!!!!!!!!
