If you were curious about how much energy a single unit like a TV or a blender would use, This link will convert for you without using all of that fancy math. On almost everything there is a sticker or a plate somewhere that states how much wattage or amperage it uses. If you find (2) of the properties, This page will give you the rest.. www.angelfire.com/pa/baconbacon/page2.htmlThis can be useful information if you decide to operate an item from an inverter in your vehicle or a solar powered supply.. Example.. I have a 6-speed blender that operates on 120 volts A.C. and consumes 350 watts of power. (Per the sticker on the bottom) When I add the information in the above link, I find that it uses 2.92 amps. (rounded) If the blender is used on an inverter it will still use the same amount of wattage.. In this example we will use 12 volts D.C. Go back to the link and change the voltage to 12 instead of 120 and use the same wattage rating as above. Now you will find it takes 29.17 amps (rounded) from a battery while using an inverter. (Add %5 for inverter losses)

snowflake....when ya mentioned building a cordwood home, i looked around some sites to see what ya meant....one site showed a cordwood building that had a sod lookin' roof....kinda' like the garden roof, would be my guess anyway.......was real cool......and i thought that would probably be the way i'd wanna' go if i was to ever build a cordwood abode........
didn't someone way back when we were all young say the best protection ya could have from fallout, in the event of something horrible, was to pile dirt on your rooftop?....
solar panels are real practical though.......
i'm excited for ya........can't wait to see what ya eventually come up with........
