Just sittin here thinkin of how I'm usin only 52 watts instead of 200 watts to light up my house.
Got a three-pack of them screw in fluorescent bulbs bout three weeks ago. light output is spose to be 1600 lumens, or the equal to bout a 100 watt bulb. And they're spose to last 6000 hours. And they only burn 26 watts of electricity. They dont come on quite as quick as a regular bulb, and they're not as bright when they first light up, but when they get warmed up they're purty bright. and you wont burn yer fingers if you touch them, either. Am curious to see if theres any difference on my bill. and how long they actually do last. I was always changing them cheap bulbs. Like bout every week or so.

Good idea..yeah, I need to quit buying those cheapo light bulbs. I have one of those lights in my front porch light that comes on when it gets dark and its a long last bulb too. I have had it for like 5 years. I am amazed it has lasted that long. It was well worth the extra cost. uhhh, HB...do you touch light bulbs often? Let us know in a couple months how you think it help energy wise.

Well I have these in the bathroom that are those globe bulbs. My son HAS to have that light on when he goes to sleep which take an hour and everyone in this house for some reason can turn ON the bathroom light but can't turn it back off <grumble mumble grumble>. Those things are expensive!!!
I let them nearly all burn out a coupla months back cause I didn't want to pay $10.00 to replace all 5 nearly. I like the dim light makes me look younger. ;D

One thing I'll splurge on is incandescent lighting (some lamps are only 25 watt, tho) Those flourescent bulbs might be efficient, but ~shudder~ they are HORRID 'mood lighting'...makes a room look like one of those creepy cheap-o motels (uh, no offense, HillBaby, lol ...it's a 'guy' thang, plain and simple. Goes with the light brown recliner and metal office desk ~grin~ )

Oooo, you can hear that danged high pitched hum too? Yep, between the bright-white light, the near invisible nauseating flicker and the screeeeeeee, they can stay out in the workshop as far as I'm concerned.

I have never heard any noise form these lil screw-in bulbs. no flicker, either. I agree, normal fluorescent tubes make noise, but these havent so far. And I can hear a hearing aid turned up too far in the nest room. Screeeeeech!!!! Right Sunny, with my color coordinates, why would I care how the light is?

Yeah HB, my hearing use to be real good too. Until I worked so long in a loud factory and didn't wear my ear plugs. I was standing, and talking to a guy one time close to his front driver side tire. I stopped talking and said, you got a pretty bad leak in that tire...he said, you are nuts. but I could hear it!! He got on his knees and put his ear down there and still couldn't hear it. He thought I was kidding. He left but called me later and said, damn you were right, I got a flat.......lmao!

What's ridiculous is my daughter is the opposite of me. I turn lights on in the house cause I can't see I am old. She goes behind me and turns them back off. BUT, the bathroom light(s), and there are five high wattage bulbs in the vanity fixture of the mirror, and another one over the toilet NO ONE can turn off. It lights up both doors to our bedroom that is attached. UGH ya buy em books and ya buy em books and ya send em school and they STILL don't know anything.

Here at the pond we have to have at least 75 watt but then there are a few spots that has to be 100 watt we just buy the cheap ones cause buy the time papafrog breaks them which happens quite often we are better going cheap Everyone around here knows if the bills goes higher than it should be I start making cuts myself and they don't like that. Really though we sit in the dark alot I guess its because someone is usally napping at all hours around here
