Well I went on a road trip to amish country in Ohio this weekend. I went looking for the Lehmans Non Electric store, in Kidron Ohio. Thanks to mapquest ( sending us about 1 hour out of the way) we finally found it on our own.... It was on a beautiful country road the farms leading to the store were mostly Amish, big ole rambling barns, lovely plain houses.... When we got to the store the parking lot was really packed with visitors. There was an Amish auction going on at one of the other buildings, an ole guy was making Ice cream with a steam powered ice cream machine, Made an awful lot of racket to be making ice cream!!! There were a couple of Amish families selling baskets, very beautiful work!!( I wanted a basket but I have to wait till I get the place built so I can have a wall to hang one on )
Any way it took Hubby and I 4 hours to walk through all the store! There was a beautiful copper tub I fell in love with ( but for 4,900.00 they will have to keep it ) I found my oil lanterns for my porch and oil lamps for the inside of the house... My wood cook stove, and heating stove. There was milking supplies, cheese making supplies, candle making supplies..... Everything you would possibly need to live off grid!
Hanging up there was beautiful copper pots, Huge copper kettles for making apple butter!
There were all the tools you would need on a farm, beautiful wraught iron hinges and door pulls, glass knobs, Pocket knives Galore ! ( my boys would have had fun there! )
Books on everything you could possibly wish to read up on. cast iron cookware, hundreds of cookie cutters! Beautiful crockery, cups, plates, bowls, ( oh and dont forget the ole moonshine jugs) Whiskey barrells, and Hoiser cupboards,
If you ever get a chance to go visit the store you really should! And if you can't make it to the store they do have an online store and you can also receive their catalog . I am sure there is something in therir store for everyone!!!
