Does anybody know how I find out what my soil might need here in the low country of south carolina. I want to start a garden at our new house but not sure what's NOT in it. It looks rich, not real sandy but I want to till it, and give it a boost for winter so by spring I can commense ta plantin. I'm only doin about 16' x 24'

Here we can take a sample of our soil to the Dnr and they do a test for free. Also Lowes carries a soil tester you can order some sample testers on line at different seed sites. I know for certain plants you need different types of soil .. Some require more acid and others need a sweeter soil . I will look online and see if I can find a cheap soil tester. You might even want to try a search for your state and see if they do free soil testing.

Thanx for the tips.... I found out online that Clemson does soil sampling for $10 not bad..... So I'll get a sample kit from them and see what we got. I want to grow zucchini,yellow squash, big boy tomato's, plum tomato's, grape or cherry toms, beans, peas, greens, some peppers. I'll probably do the box garden or rows not sure yet got about 4 months to ponder it.
