Thisa was sent to me through e-mail thought I would pass it along.... A Silicon Valley startup rents solar panels to homeowners - a strategy that is both cost-effective for customers and, thanks to generous tax breaks, a boon to its bottom line. Even for the greenest of homeowners, powering their homes with solar energy has long been an idea more attractive in theory than in practice. It works very well .However the batteries are very expensive to buy..Geothermal in the long run is a better way to go..A typical house would stay right about 64 degrees year round.

We are planning on the solar for power in our home we are working on ... But in the mean time we will not have any power once it is built. Hopefully we will get it done next year..... I kinda like the old way of doin things....

LOL It was so much less complicated back then. For years at the ranch we only had elec in the kitchen and parlor room. The other 6 rooms had coal oil lamps. No hot water except what was in the small tank built in the woodburning cook stove. I really miss those days sometimes. When I get some time I'll post about growing up on a cattle ranch in South Texas.......

Well I would love to hear about it !!! When I grew up from age 10 to age 15 we had a pitcher pump for water, and the cook stove had a resevoir for the water, and for 2 years we had no electric. I was 14 when we got the bathroom put in, Before that it was an out house and that sure was fun in the winter !!! LOL I remember what those times were like, but I loved it, the family seemed to be closer then, we played games in the evening, mum read stories to us, and our christmases were always special, all the baking , we even made our own christmas ornaments , we baked them in the old cook stove... That is what I want to get back to.... Raising my own food, no electric for distractions, I ain't had tv in over 6 months now and don't miss it abit !!!
