Alright we all know we have done this or know someone who has. ( Or wish we had the nerve to ! LOL ) Here are some guidelines or rules to go by.... 12 rules for regifting without fear If you're going to do it (and it's more common than you think), please update the wrapping -- and remove the old card. You think regifting is totally tacky, but you secretly hope there might be a polite way to get rid of that hideous scarf your Aunt Edna gave you. You're a chronic regifter and you need some new ideas to get you through the holidays. You've never heard of regifting. Really. You're just curious. Welcome, one and all, to a frank discussion of a grand old holiday tradition we all practice and pretend we don't. (That includes you fibbers who picked No. 3!) Even Peggy Post, etiquette advice columnist for Good Housekeeping, admits she's done it articles.moneycentral.msn.com/SavingandDebt/Advice/12RulesForRegiftingWithoutFear.aspx

okay...i admit to doin' this an' i don't ever feel guilty about it....but it's with gift cards....i live in the sticks and avoid cities as much as humanly possible.....whenever i am given gift cards that would necessitate going to the city to use, i pass 'em on to friends i think will enjoy 'em.....i put thought into who i give 'em to.......an' i tell 'em i'm regiftin' and why they are gettin' 'em....
for instance, got a bath and body card once and gave it to my daughter in law.....she adores that store and they were in a place where spendin' cash was tight and she wasn't able to indulge in it.....she loved gettin' that card....nothin' i coulda' gotten there would have brought me as much joy as i got from her reaction to gettin' it......
so far no one has ever complained or refused to accept 'em...
i haven't ever done regiftin' with stuff...i'm kinda sentimental 'bout stuff i'm given.........

p.s. when i regift gift cards, i don't give 'em on special occasions....they're more like a "just 'cuz" gift..........

my sister and i are all the time giving the same ugly ceramic dog back and forth. It was our mothers and she thought it was beautiful.... needless to say it is downright ugly!!!! ( least we think so) right now my sis has it (she got it for her birthday ) I look to get it either for christmas or my birthday... we also share custody of mums christmas decorations and her card albumn.... This year I have the red ornaments and Mil has the blue... ( but I have all of grannies old glass ones) It is good to share some things

Its funny cause one day before mum died she had me and my sis in the back room going through her old trunk and seeing who wanted what and who she wanted to have stuff, when she came accross this dog, and asked which of us wanted it and we both said at the same time to give it to the other. we were laughing so hard!!! so that was when we decided to share custody of the ugly thing.... as for mums book, dad gave it to me and me and sis decided not to divide it just share it.... I have things that were our ancesters and she has stuff that was mums & dads.... I am going to make a scrap book and take pics of everything and write down whose it was and where they got it for our kids.....
