Well guys its time to start planning for that lovely garden you want this year. You need to think about what plants you want to grow , and which ones take the longest to grow, and which ones can be planted side by side. One way to extend the growing season is by starting your seeds indoors. There are several ways to do this. You can always go out and purchase a lovely green house kit ( which will run you anywheres from 5 grand to 20 grand ) But since we are trying to become more self sufficient here and trying to show how to surrvive on less lets look at other ways to start our seeds. you can start seeds in egg cartons, small containers, or just trays ... If you can get a good starting soil it works best because there is no chance of seeds bring in it. I found a good website that has a lot of interesting tips... www.humeseeds.com/indoor.htm

Ask for grap boxes at the store if they have the styrofoam ones they are excellent for starting seeds. You can use the box and the lid and have two contaiers about 12 inches wide by 18 long! Always put plastic over the lanted seeds for about 4 days or till you see them break the soil. this keeps them from drying out and will allow more seeds to start. i have alot of extra sunflower seeds and moon flower seeds that I will give away later this year!
