The Botanical Garden here uses a similar system for irrigating purposes. Says it saves a lot of water that way .

harvesting rain water is a good idea, but so is sending all your grey water like bath water, wash water out through a system of purification systems then down to water your trees and gardens like with a drip irrigation system.

This assuming you get rain. We can't even harvest dewfall round here. I like 12V's idea. The past couple of days well since late Friday afternoon we have no water pressure here. I'm gonna call city hall tomorrow and see if they are having problems.

SF, that is an excellent idea.
Sheeesh, joyce is right, we don't even get dew anymore. I got a feeling once it starts good, it won't stop for a while. I would love to have a big container like 12vman has next yr for times like we have had lately.
