Or The scientific way to figger land mass.
( I borrowed this from anuther forum)
At the dinner table on Wedensday night, count all the people who use the right hand for eating (count all left handed eaters that bowl with the right hand). Each adult over age 17 should have 5 acres. 0-5 years old should have 1/2 acre, 6-12 should have 3 acres, 13-17 should have a room about 12x12. The 13-17 year olds will be on 5 acres of one of the adults and will not require their own acreage. It will have to be decided which adult is most deaf and that is where the room is. If there are just two adults, for one year mark on the calender how many times the spouse has a gleam in the eye, divide by 63.5 and add 1&1/2 acres to the total. All this depends on if you have a basement.
Just add 1 acre for every 100 feet above sea level (I think I spelled level backwards) and for every 10 feet below sea level add for each person 6 rubber duckies. As for the attic, if above 1200 feet simply add it to the basement. Not sure about the Southern Hemisphere, I never had the chance to observe their living arrangements, my mule refuses to cross the state line. My brother did cross the line once and said there was dirt everywhere. You can''t dig an attic!

If what you need has anything to do with what you buy, this ratio might be helpful. If you heat and cook with wood an average house consumes an acre per year.. Wooded 10 acres minimum needed for a perpetual wood supply..
