A lady here locally collects knitted, crocheted, fleece lap blankets each year to take to the veterans in Fresno who are in the hospital for Christmas. She said they really like the ones with red, white and blue in them. Anyway, my mom and I are getting together in October to make 6 of the "no-sew" fleece throws to take over to her. I can knit and crochet and my mom can crochet, but we're both so slow, we'd be lucky to have one done by the first of December, LOL. So we're doing the fleece ones. Seemed like it was just a real good project and will go to help our local vets. Anyone else have something like this in their town?

I don't know of any here (which doesn't mean that there isn't any) but it sounds like an EXCELLENT idea! Are they being made to any certain size specifications? You know, that fleece may be lightweight, but sometimes I think it is even warmer than the knitted/crocheted ones. I have a coat made of that fleece in a double layer and I have never had a warmer one! You said you were making the no-sew ones... I have been thinking of trying to make one of those myself. Are you making the ones that are two layers? ..... Where the edges are clipped and tied together?

The size is 36x48, big enough for those in wheelchairs, and not to bulky to tuck in. Yeah, we do the ones with the fringe that you clip and tie two layers together. They go together pretty fast. I've made bigger throws for my family to use at night when they're sitting there watching TV. Started making these a couple of years ago for them. They are warm, and not that expensive when you get the fleece at the sales like JoAnn Fabrics has around here (50% off).
