Make a homemade metal detector Easily Make Your Own Metal Detector by Eran Abramson on December 8, 2007 If you ever wanted to make your own metal detector or think of someone that would enjoy building it themselves, this is an easy do it yourself project that makes a simple metal detector to mess around with. It could also be a great project for kids to build and then enjoy for hours. To make your very own, all you need is an AM walkman/radio, a calculator and some tape for the two. The video below presents how to make it quickly and also explains how it works and why. I haven’t tried it myself yet, but if this is a fake, the guy sure fooled me. He sounds like he actually knows what he is talking about. The only thing is…where can I find an AM Radio? www.metacafe.co.il/watch/940341/turn_a_calculator_into_a_metal_detector/

I don't know, make one and tell us if it works. I don't have a small radio like that. Maybe I will go to the salvation army or good will and see if they have one. Might find one at a garage sale for about 50 cents.

You might find one at thrift shops too.
