I was talking to my son last night and he said him and a friend sold a cord of wood for 80 dollars last week he said it was oak and pine. I told him out here in CA you can get $250.00 and cord he lives in MI. by the way. So I was wondering what do you pay for a cord of firewood where you live if you buy it?

A full cord is 4'x4'x8'.
A normal or "face" cord is two rick which is 4'x8'x the length of the stick. Say, 18 to 24 inches.
So yer buying actually one stack 16 feet long.
sooo, its a lil more than a bundle.

People are paying those prices for wood because propane and natural gas have gotten so expensive, that's what's sad. Lots of people out here can't even afford the wood, and that's even sadder.

I think if I hadda pay them prices, I'd do like Swamper an buy my cords in pellets. Bound to be cheaper.

I looked in the classified section of our newspaper online. It had 4 ads for fire wood but only one had the amount.
SEASONED OAK - Delivered, $75/ ½ Cord, $150/ Cord.

I think if I hadda pay them prices, I'd do like Swamper an buy my cords in pellets. Bound to be cheaper. That's what I'd like to check in to this year, before next winter gets here. I get my wood free from my dad, but can't store much at my place, not enough room. I guess they make an insert for a pellet stove I could put in my fireplace? I'll find out.

That would be nice buzzie and probably not as expensive as a whole stove. When mamacow got hers, I looked at a few of them and they are pretty expensive for my income. In the long run it might be cost effective tho.

Hardly anybody around here burns wood anymore. I don't know about the rest of the country but home owners insurance has got so strict here about people who burn wood, alot of companies will not insure you.

You can still burn wood here. Up in the mountains, there's no real restriction because we don't have natural gas, which is cheaper than propane, but down in the valley they now have "burn days", only can use your fireplaces when air quality is good.

We have a pellet stove. The cost of the pellets vary. Papa just bought a pallet of pellets (a ton) last week and it was $150 for the entire ton. Which will last us a couple of weeks if it doesn't get too severly cold! BUT I did an ad today for a small town northeast of here and they are saling pellets there at their lumberyard for $4.25 a bag! or $190 a ton! So really it just depends on where you go for how much they are. Also, I have done a few classified ads at work and they have had wood that has ranged anywhere from $85 to $220/cord! I told my parents and they said that they could NEVER afford to buy wood anymore at that rate!

its around $ 150.00 for a cut and split cord or $ 100.00 for a full cord and you do the labor,,or if you have land its the cost of oil & fuel for chainsaw <a lot of sore backs,,,,,,
CC sometimes those pellets come in Metric Ton(60 X 40 lbs bags)<---$ 210.00,,,,,thats 3.50 a bag. My pellet stove goes throu about 1 bag a day,i dam near get almost 2 months on a skid,by far cheaper then natural or propane.....

Yes but your pellet stove also runs off of electric right?? and when the electric goes off the worm gear doesnt put the pellets into the stove or the blower doesnt work correct? ( thats the way dad explained it ) But other than the downfall of the elec. part it is a good idea. But I like my cast iron wood stove. I miss it being out on the road with this stupid electric heat... Back home we have a guy that will deliver you a 1ton truck of split wood and even stack it if you want for about 80-100.00 depending on the kind of wood.

This be true, but ya know those of us who grew up with a wood stove know you start getting in your wood in the spring AND get in enough for a year or two supply. right now dad is half way through this years supply but he has another year stacked and drying. Also he cuts wood just about everyday ( just to have something to do)

Well I delievered it and they say the want more. Swamper if you burn live oak or ash wood it does not have to be dry to burn and the hotter you burn your fire the cleaner your chimmey will stay . People try and get there wood fires to stay at a certion Temp all the time The fire get no air. So this is what happens,,,,,,, No air to fire mean fire burn at a low temp and causes smoke withch causes Ash to bulid up in the chimmy witch cuses a fire.
