Actually they are very sturdy and you coat the outside and inside with a mud type like adobe. there is one here in Webster county .

I would love to see one in person. I love the look of them. I like the way all the edges are "rounded" off. And the walls are so thick one would think that they were extra well insulated. But it is soooo damp where I live I just keep thinking about what would happen if dampness got into that straw. Any idea how long these houses stand?

Not sure but the cord wood houses have been known to be standing well over 100 years. With little to no maintinence

they wouldn't work for me at all I'm 100% allergic to straw..they look really neat especially on the inside
