My son was joking with the hubby the other evening and told him the dumpster girl thingies are dissapearing LMAO .... They made us spring rolls once but I couldn't eat them . We have to go pick the boy up at SLC airport on the 23 so I will get some good food then. Prolly cracker barrell !! LOL

Theres a grocery store south of here that has General's chicken and usually sweet an sour chicken on Friday nights. This time they said it was sweet an sour pork. I usually get one of both for me an Sinker. He don't do spicy stuff, so I always get the General's chicken. This time it just looked different. And the peppers they used were just short of napalm. Lit me up like a roman candle.
I finally got me an old wok with lid and stove ring. Just needed some cleaning. Had a bit of rust on it. Anxious to fire it up.

Oh yeah, made me think. This old Chinese cookbook said that "Accent" is the same as MSG. And says to add some to everything. The author couldn't say much about it cept it brought out the flavor in everything.

Accent and MSG are BAD for you HB. You don't need it. You can do this kinda cooking without it. I don't use peanut oil (which a lot of people do), I use a good olive oil cause you can get it real hot without it smoking. I don't use as much soy sauce as they generally call for (and I use the lite soy sauce, less sodium), and I have used rice vinegars, oyster sauce (it's made from different seasonings and oysters, can be real thick, but doesn't have a fishy taste), sweet and sour sauces, to flavor my cooking. With MSG or Accent, you may as well just dump a fistfull of salt in your food. I like stir fries the best cause the veggies come out crispy tender. Some a the Chinese food can be mushy, which I don't always care for. Of the two, Japanese is my favorite cause it's cooked faster.

I made scrambled eggs with green oinions. One time I put in some tenderized beef. Cut it up perty small. Takes longer to prepare what yer gonna add then to cook it. Super fast food!!
I gotta bottle of lite soy sauce. And sea salt and I normally use EVOO anyhow, so thats what I'll prolly stick with. Bout the only thing I lack is fresh ginger. Tho I spect powdered will work. I use that on my fried cabbage stuff.
I've yet to use a recipe yet. Figger I need to stock up on some things first. I just trying it out with whats handy. I like it tho. Wished I'd a started cooking with one long time ago.

Yeah, powdered will work, although you should be able to find bottled shredded fresh ginger at the grocers if you really want it. Definitely takes a bit of effort chopping up the veggies to cook with, but worth it.

I turned out my first real wok type dish nite fore last. After reading several recipes, I just tossed stuff till it looked right. Had beef and a pack of stir fry sparagus (which I wont buy again), garlic, a pinch of curry, chopped onions, soy sauce, a couple glurps of sherry, and prolly bouta cup of chicken broth. Thickened it alil with cornstarch and served over rice. I had bout three helpings. Took a bowl to a friend that works the late shift and who has eaten real wok cooking. He said to keep it up, I was well on my way. And to bring any more samples I mite concoct up. lol
That stir fry sparagus wasn't too whippy. Seems like they used all tough, stringy parts. Wern't no flower heads at tall. Think I'll try the pepper mix next, or the pea one.

Yesterday, had some leftover pork roast that I chopped up well, dumped a can of cream of celery soup on it and added a generous amount of Tony Cachere's Creole seasoning (salt free) and some garlic powder and coarse ground pepper...cooked it up a little bit...served it on baked potatoes...I wasn't expecting much, but it was actually pretty good!
Still have enough left-over pork to do shredded pork tacos this evening.....
Hope your dad is doin' okay Buzzy........sounds like he's eating well!

Sweet corn on the cob, 1 inch cubes of marinated steak, baby carrots, chunks of red potatoes, slices of sweet onion,Roma tomato wedges, butter, salt, and wedges of granny smith apple. all slow cooked in the roaster, then 30 minutes before serving add broccoli, cauliflower and boiled shrimp.
I'm so full I can hardly breathe.
