Ya know Telly...I'm very sensitive about the whole health care thing, since I am one of the 52 million on the "get well or die" plan....you know....no affordable health care anywhere nearby (no low cost clinics, med. school clinics, etc. available - and no, HB, a 170 hard, hilly, curvy mile round trip to go to the clinic you go to is not practical if I'm sick enough to need to go to a doctor) ... Make too much to qualify for medicaid, too little to afford health insurance or doctors around here, who range from $150 to $250 for a simple office visit (plus any lab fees that might be incurred) which is what the uninsured hafta' pay at the time of the visit.... Been almost 20 years since I've been to a doctor (when office visits were $30) other than a bone cracker (and dentist, which was unavoidable and very, very costly)....first part of that 20, when doctors were still affordable, I was really healthy and didn't need to go...now I'm older and once in a while I probably should go get some stuff checked out but it is simply not possible...so I get a little hyper/ticked about any health care talk when it doesn't take the working poor people in my situation into consideration or discounts the seriousness of it....I was really prepared to hafta' bite my tongue about your post when I saw the subject line...... But, I gotta' say.... I think you're onto something here...  (Sorta' brings to mind the guys with illnesses who commit crimes so they'll be sent to jail so they can get medical treatment.........) P.S. thanks for letting me get on my soapbox........steppin' down from it now.....  |
