Last week I looked in the dumpster next door to the Shack where I clean, found a lot of good stuff, must have belonged to one of the people that just got married two weekends back. There seemed to be just the right amount of things for one person. I found a slow cooker that looks just like new and works perfectly, all the silverware a single person would have, pots and pans, basically all the kitchen things. Then there was the bedding for one bed, I didn't take it, don't like other peoples bedding. Mama hollered at me for it, but I gave most of it to the Salvation Army. I did keep the small slow cooker, to make my soup with, due to having to be on a special diet.

Sounds like you hit the jack pot ! I have been going around to the thrift stores here in Texas and they suck The best thrift stores I have found by far is in Utah ! When someone dies they just load up the whole house and take it to the thrift store I have seen picture frames with pictures still in them of their relatives ! But boy you can get some good deals !

Amazing what people throw away rather than taking it someplace where it can be put to good use.

My girlfriend dumpster dives at various chain stores in the spring when they throw away their plants. her landscaping was beautiful one year, annuals and periennials. she gave me a bunch of orchids one time. it was cool. i never have enough guts to dumpster dive but one day last week i drove down a street and someone had a beautiful picture out by the curbside to be picked up by the trash man. i have a friend that her and her husband owned a trash company. she had the coolest collection of old tools i ever saw. people throw away some of the craziest things. I know someone else that buys out garage sales at the end of the day. walking around an auction at the end of the day, you get some pretty cool things then too.

I was raised that dumpster diving was disgusting. Then I got curious over the years as I heard friends talking about it. Over the past year or so I have discovered the JOY of dumpster diving. I have gotten some really good things at the flea market dumpster. What upset me the most was finding a perfectly good Bible in the dumpster. That was just WRONG!! None of us at the flea market sells them. We all keep them in a neat stack in at our set-ups and give them away. Doesn't feel right selling them, either. A few months ago I pulled out a really nice suitcase from the dumpster. I opened it up and it was filled with baby clothes!

People do throw away perfectly good stuff. I don't understand it. I guess if they just threw away junk, I'd havta lower my standards. Nuttin better than a good find!

Wife don't like me doing it, but hey, I always did like freebies. Got two lamps out in the back of my truck she don't know about as of yet.

Actually, my Dad did some dumpster diving any chance he got. Drove my mom nuts! Somewhere I still have a cooking pot he got out of one. It was a nice pot, just was missing the handle. He always went to the ones outside of stores. Can't do that very many places, now, not without getting arrested..... sad. I always wanted to go with him, but my mom absolutely would not allow it. She drilled it into us how horrible it was. When he would come home with something, which let her know he had been going through dumpsters, she would chew on him for hours! Usually pretty loudly, further insuring my brother and I how terrible it was. I wish now, though, I had slipped off and gone with him at least once. As I entered the flea market world, I was introduced to the joys of dumpster diving. I always find it really funny when a vendor has something they haven't been able to sell for months, gets tired of moving it in and out each week, tosses it in the dumpster, one of us retrieves it and puts it out for sale, and sells it before the day is out! I have done that at least 3 times myself. Guess it has to be hung or set just right.

I love dumpster diving amd trash dumps. My bud and I went up to the big sur area and found enough brass to pay for three trips up there, him pig hunting and me fishing, even found one of them fold up boats, it worked just fine.
