Got my first Garmin this week. Not a fish finder, but a truck finder. I can usually find fish. Just can't always find the truck. Especially when it's foggy or hazy. It's the cheapest one they have I think. An Etrex 10. I tried it out in the truck and it showed when I got back home. and the path I took. That's all I need I think. I kinda got lost last year one time. Hadda friend come down and shine his lights out so I could see where I was. Was only about a quarter mile off. Also got a lil doodad that sposta let me use cheaper green tanks of gas for the lil pocket stove. It normally takes that expensive butane mix stuff. I mite be able to refill said cans with it? I not sure cause all (and I mean ALL) the instructions are in Chinese. Duh. ... Oh and it also has a valve for the upright cans too. The ones that look like a spray can that fits in them coleman stoves. I think the only ones this will work with are the backpack stoves that have the hose. Sposta be nice the next few days. Maybe I can get some fishing in. Shouldn't be hard to find water. Beins it's up way high.

I use my phone for GPS, Have Co-Pilot maps for North America loaded in it. I just use it to find a spot to eat or sleep when I'm on the road.
I also have an app so my old lady can see my location in case I'm "lost". I don't usually get lost because I don't care where I'm at most of the time.
So far I've always found my way home but at least now she don't call just to ask where I'm at. It doesn't do any good to ask when I'll be home because I don't know until I get there.

Welp, I'm probably one of the last to still use a Flip-fone. I've read about them "In-reach" garmin type things that lets folks know where yer at. I think they usedta call em ELTs or some such. Emergency Locator Transmitters. ... There's alot of the water around here that doesn't have a cell signal. Learned some years ago that you'd be better off with a couple them little two-way radios. Plus be better to drop one of them than a phone. I keep draggin my feet on upgrading to technology.

The GPS maps on my phone don't need a phone signal to work, the map of the U.S. is downloaded and I only need the GPS satellites.
I have a license for the GMRS type 2-way radios where I can use the ones with a good range and will work off the repeaters. We use them hunting and fishing. There is a lot of places I go with no phone reception.

I have a ham license and have a few of the FRS freqs programmed in my handy talkie. Buuutt, I aint takin it on a yak either. Guess I could get one of them cheap tracfones and download google maps for the area, stuff it inna waterproof case, just to have. .... Still, I think I like this GPS for finding my truck in the fog/haze. It even has an alert to tell me when I'm close. May get to try it out here in the near future. Sposta rain for the next week (at least). So I'm sure the freekin lake will rise accordingly. Can't have LOZ being nasty for Memorial weekend. I hope it rains there, too.
