BTW I went and rescued those old books for my dad.. There is abot 300 or so, Quite a huge variety, I found some things in the books that no one knows about. Picture of my dad when he was little, his grade cards, certificates from where he never missed a day in school. There was books from 1942 on the war, one on the land down under and what their slang words meant. couple of other things too,. Oh yeah and letters from my great grandmother to my Granny, I tell you what ole Hillbillies back then didn't write none too good!! LOL But they were very interesting to read!

Now this is certainly an interesting topic......of coarse I find tons of stuff in the trash: Here in this disposable society we live in were rent is so high and jobs are far and few, there are always people movin in my area. when they go they leave there junk (treasure) on the curb.......I have had a few really good finds and even made a few bucks on things, Here is a recent list of the past year and a half or so: 1. hepa air filter- needed to be cleaned and new filter. 2. Craftsman table saw- needed new direct drive cable 3. furniture- including dressers, nite stands, dinettes and chairs, book cases. 4. set of 6 life jackets, sold to buddy at marina 5. old fishin poles- repaired and gave to kids in sons BSA troop 6. old hand tools (saws, ladders,etc...) 7. fireplace grill and tools (poker, shovel, stand) 8. Books tons of books 9. appliances (mini frig and microwave) in garage waitng for me to build gazebo. 10. baby high chair and crib ( donated to battered woman shelter in area)
these are just some of the things i happened across theres tons more out there i dont get lol.... I like to drive through the more prosperous neighborhoods on trash day they seem to get rid of the est stuff lol.

A friend of mine works for a nearby school district. A few years ago the remodeled thier library. When he told me everything was going in dumpsters it was diving time for me. I ended up with a 6' tall 6' wide double book case and about 300 extra shelves for it. All maple wood.
Every now and then I pull a partial 20lb bottle of propane out of a dumpster or garbage heap. Nieghbor is always having me over for a cookout and he has an older grill that can still use the old bottle. So, I bring gas. So far since last fall four bottles.
So far this spring during spring cleanup I've gotten;
Two good tires the same size that my van takes. 1 All wire rabbit cage 1 Medium sized dog carrier 6 Tomato cages (new never used) A set of ramps for working on a car 4 ton floor jack a pair of jackstands
Every year I pull other peoples junk out of junk piles. Clean it all up. And then have a big garage sale in the fall.
I even sold something back to it's original owner once. Seems he had one just like it and couldn't find it anymore. hehehe, his wife had gotten tired of looking at it and tossed it out when he wasn't looking.

Dang, New York must be a diver heaven. Since there are no "prosperous neighborhoods" here, seems like everyone fights over other folks trash. Best to find a remodel job somewhere (like woodsrunner said) Back when the hospital remodeled, I was in heaven. Course I worked there an got paid to rumage in the dumpster ;D Brought home pickup truck loads of stuff. Back in the early 80's there was a public dump bout 20 miles from here. Me and a friend would take two truck loads in an bring two truck loads back. Hmm, thinkin back it mighta been late 70's. Anyways, was loads of fun. pun intended

What I love is the stuff my husband brings home from his tech job that the computer company is going go trash especially since they have downsized from 4 stores to one place 1/8 the size or the original. So far we have scored two computer desks, enough leftover parts (from upgrades and older computers), cases, and monitors to build 3 computers, a two drawer file cabinet, and 4 computer chairs. Recently I got an old leather one in good shape that's not torn and comfortabley padded. I'm surprised I even get up to go to the bathroom anymore. Next I need to get me a little port-a-potty for this corner by my desk.

Everytime someone asks me "where did you get that chair?" I proudly tell them, "my brother got it for me from someone's trash going out!" I have also gotten a child's wading pool and so has my brother and father! So I guess you can call us the DUMPSTER family Not all of us are Dumpster Divers ::)But the ones that do seems to get in trouble cause they not only go diving but also bring home road kill And that really isnt good

Dumpster diving and garbage grabbin', I love em both. Specially on the paper route, I git first chance at what others throw away. Got my heavy duty flashlight, always a pair of throwaway gloves(in case I put my hands into something YUCKY) We have had good luck over the years findin' things. Beds, dishes, what not shelves, whatnots to go on the what not shelves, yard ornaments, bird baths, our 2 big rockin' chairs on the front porch. It's unreal what some people throw away. I have noticed specially round the first of the month when people alot of the time have to move.... that's when there is alot of stuff We sell alot at public auctions and some of the stuff we have found we will take to auction. We call it PP (pure profit) I remember one time an old cabinet base we found brought 75.00. I almost PP'd over the PP

You got that right! I say to everyone...do not buy GE! I bought a GE fridge 3 yrs ago. It went out 2 times this yr and I lost everything in it and the freezer area! The second time the repair man said it was recalled! I paid over $1000 for that damn thing. When it first went out I called them and they said the warranty was out and never once told me about the recall. It is fixed now by them sending me two new doors and was installed for free too. Now I am trying to get my money back for the repair costs when it went out 2 times. That will be like pullin teeth. I asked for money for losing food twice too. Doubt I get that either. I will never buy GE again because of all this crap. I went to Walmart yesterday and wanted to get one of those neat toaster ovens to set on my counter. The size and features I wanted was a GE...I did NOT get it. grrrrr. Boycott GE!!!

Found a beautiful lamp this morning while on the route. Nice glass ruffled shade. Good size table lamp. I can't find anything wrong with it. ;D I collect Fenton glassware and it honestly looks like one of their older lamps made back in the 70's. Got to get my books out to be for sure. I love dumpster diving. ;D
