There are several different kinds. I raise cranberry shelly beans, kidney beans, and then an heirloom bean called a blue bloom.
It's sorta like white beans or pinto's.
Cept IMO the cranberry beans are so much better tasting.
That's the name I have heard em called all my life.

I always let em sit overnight and shell em the next day. It loosens em up from the hull and they shell alot easier.
Now butterbeans.....I hate pickin' em and shellin' em.

wow thats neat. I guess I never thought about people growing white or pinto beans before. The only bean plants I have ever seen are just regular green beans. The only veggies I have seen shelled are peas.

Ever since I was a child at home we always raised and canned and froze most of our veges. There was a few years I didn't get to garden when I first moved to town here. The places I lived the lots weren't big enough, but up here I have plenty of room. Froggie, if you ever get a chance to eat any of the shelley beans go for it. They put pinto's and white beans to shame. Last year almost drove me crazy not having my vege garden. I missed it soooo bad. I still want me a Jersey cow, some hogs and about a dozen chickens. I'll have em this time next year.

You are very lucky to have such a garden, and good luck getting the animals you want. I have had little gardens, never had a place large enough to grow much.

I got a mess out there after the storm. Maters are blown down. Beans and peas are turned wrong side out. Alot of my flowers have been blown over and laying on the ground.
Will have a full day tomorrow trying to clean up the mess.

yea I know it sucks. Could have been worse though. I think I have posted on here my reasons for not planting corn anymore. I have never seen it fail about the last of June toward the 4th of July we always just like clockwork will get a storm with wind and it will blow the corn over. And that's what it did yesterday. Not so much the corn fields around here but the corn in people's gardens. They did have a 60% chance today but I think it's the 40% again. Don't mind the rain, hope it does just no storms. I was scared yesterday.

Taking a break. Almost all the black eye susans I have had to pull up. They are flat on the ground. Tried propping them back up and they are breaking all to pieces. Got the maters back up. It's a mess for sure.

Finally got most everything either straightened up or pulled up. Through with the beets, carrots, cabbage, green beans, got all the taters dug. Considering the lack of rain or too much at once , the wind, bugs, deer, and rabbits, the garden is doing good. Working in shelly beans now plus squash, cucumbers. Soon will be kidney beans, peas and maters. Gonna try planting a late crop of green beans and a few other things.
