I was laying down resting and I heard a gun. Boom!!!!!!! I ran outside and hubby was over at the arbor with the pistol. I said what is it he said your buddy is up here. It was a snake!!!!!! It was up in the clematis and daylilies. It was striking at him and he took a couple more shots and got it. Couldn't get a clear shot because of how it was in there. It was about 5 ft. long and as big around as a weeding hoe handle. He said it was a chicken snake. I didn't care if it was a rooster snake. Like I have said on here before there are 4 kinds of snakes....dead ones, alive ones, big ones, and little ones. This one falls in the dead category, thank God. ;D

Gonna buy some more moth balls this weekend. They say snakes don't like to smell them and it helps keep them away. I have done that in the past and it seems to work.
Gonna try and work some ground when it dries out a little and plant some butternut squash. I love them. I think they will have time to make. It takes about 3 to 4 months.

Summer squash is blooming. Can't wait until I can have some fried squash. Tomatoes are doing alright, not like I think they should. Then again sometimes I think I should plant one day and gather the next. My patience wears thin alot of the time.
Green beans are doing great. Got to pick them tomorrow.

CAN ANYONE TELL ME THE BEST LOCATION TO PLANT A " MUM"? LITTLE MAN GOT ME ONE FOR VALENTINES DAY AND I HAVE BEEN BABYING IT AND I THINK IT IS BIG ENOUGH TO PLANT IN THE YARD NOW!

Mums are very hardy and you can almost plant them anywhere except shady areas. They do need partial sun. So either full sun or partial shade is good for them. Give em a dose of miracle grow about once a month.
If it is budding again once you set it out keep the buds pinched off til around the 4th of July, that way it will bloom this fall.
I have several mums and they come back year after year. So many people decorate with them in the fall and then throw them away not knowing mums are perennials and will come back year after year and have babies and you can transplant them.
Now thru here lice is bad to get on mums so I take about a teaspoon of Dawn or Joy dish washing liquid mix it with about a quart of water in a spray bottle and spray the mums. That will kill the lice.

Well I don't know about my garden. I think it's in the wrong area of the yard. Gets to much shade. I think I'll just let it go and plant grass there and start over somewhere else, so no garden this season But next season you bet I'm having one, fill it with corn, peas, tomatoes, peppers, cilantro, onions, zucchini, yellow squash, potatoes, strawberries. Would love to have some watermelon, cantaloupe, Brussels sprouts, cabbage and some chives. I can just dream for now until then.
