We talked about planting a few things but snakes have been bad here, cant even go in the back yard except to mow. The neighbors found a nest of them on their porch last week too. They have some "basket" plants that I was thinking about trying, could keep them on the porch & set them on the ground when it rained, but didnt know what they would taste like.

Lord let's don't talk about snakes. They skeer me to death. Been lucky only seen that one go under the house and then about 2 weeks after that hubby killed one in my flower beds. I am hoping it was the same one. Ticks, they are so bad here this year. I have already got 10 of me within the last 2 weeks. I can just walk thru the yard come in and find one on me. I don't know whats worse ticks or snakes. I hate both of em.

I havent seen any ticks yet(not that I want to). I dont really like snakes either, but what worries me is I dont know which ones bite &/or are deadly. I have 3 kids & 2 dogs & dont want them or us getting bit. How do you get rid of them or repel them from your yard? Hubby kills them as he sees them, usually running over them with the mower. I sure was surprised about seeing so many here in the city,we didnt see this many the whole 6 years we lived in the country.

I been buying moth balls and sprinkling them around the house. I read somewhere snakes don't like the smell. I ain't too fond of the smell either but it seems to help. Also they say sulphur sprinkled around the house, buildings wherever it looks like snakes might like to lay around. I never tired the sulphur.
I like your hubby's method. ;D

Thanks,Joyce. I will tell hubby to pick up a box of moth balls. My sis is allergic to sulphur so I better not try that. Moma owl put moth balls under her house but I think it was for mice & I dont want any of them either. He likes to kill them too,but I would rather they just go away,I hate killing things.(any things)

WE HAVE MOTH BALLS FOR SNAKES AND MICE AND WE HAVE SEEN 3 SNAKES SO FAR THIS SUMMER 2 BIG BLACK SNAKES ( AT LEAST 3 FT LONG) AND ONE BLACK SNAKE WITH YELLOW STRIPES ON IT ABOUT 2- 2 1/2 FT LONG! AS LONG AS I SEE THEM BEFORE I AM RIGHT ON TOP OF THEM I AM OK AND KNOW TO GO THE OTHER WAY. WE DO HAVE LOTS OF COPPERHEADS AND COTTON MOUTHS AROUND HERE BUT HAVE NOT SEEN ANY OF THEM YET THIS YEAR! I DON'T LIKE TO KILL THE BLACK SNAKES CAUSE THEY DO KEEP THE RAT AND MOUSE POPULATION DOWN!

I keep thinking the moth balls work. I just don't like snakes whether they are poisonous or not. If one bit me I would die of a heart attack anyway. I will set traps for mice.
Digging taters today, some bigger than your 2 fist put together. Green beans are still doing good. Picked them. Got my first picking of summer squash yesterday. Pulling beets again. Will pickle them tomorrow.
I'll post some more pictures later this week.

Only found one tick this yr...it fell on my arm off the oak tree in back yard. But what's up with freakin sweat bees!? Lately I go outside and they swarm me! I don't wear any kind of perfume when I stay at home all the time, so what is up? Ya think its the lack of rain and I mighta been sweatin just enough for them to attack me? I mean there would be so many I couldnt knock them off fast enough...had to go back inside! That has happened two days in a row...sheeesh we just got to get some rain today and tomorrow! I heard Texas is having flash floods!

I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU DON'T REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT DOG! I GOT PISSED CAUSE IT LITTERALLY TRAMPLED DOWN EVERY STALK AND I THREW A BASEBALL AT IT AND HIT IT IN THE HEAD AND KILLED IT, THEN YOUR DAD TOOK IT BACK TO ITS OWNERS AND TOLD THEM THAT IF THEY HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT THAT I WOULD THROW A BASEBALL AT THEM TOO!

Momma killed a pig like that one time when I was about 5, we lived in a rent house in the country well the owner had a bunch of hogs out back that would always be getting out. Momma took a brick and threw at one of the smaller hogs that was out and hit him in the head and down he went....deader than a door nail. Needless to say after that the owner of the hogs redid the fence and the best I can remember never had any more problems with them getting out. Hey owl, maybe you should try out for the Cardinals up there, sounds like you're a pretty good pitcher.
